Cool noodle stool, the product from Saran Yenpanya

From ordinary common-shaped stool for sitting in the noodle restaurants to cool design artwork, this Noodle Stool is designed by Mr. Saran Yenpanya, the creative director and the founder of 56thStudio. He tells the stories through utensils and furniture. His stories are alive in every piece of artwork he designed. He creates stories in a way nobody can see them.

Saran told us about the inspiration for this product that it happened when he sat in a chair to eat in the noodle restaurant, he noticed that the chair in the restaurant is functional, lightweight, and easy to move. He has a question about why nobody redesigned it for more beautiful and modern. Then he researched it deeply and found that this type of chair has many stories in itself, so he had the intention to design this product.

Saran redesigned the steel frame shape which is the main character to have a more vivid color that is the oriental charm. He changed the material of the seat to make it different from the old material. The materials are Maha Sarakham's hand-woven mat, lepironia from Phatthalung, and fabric work from the doi that he brought himself. He also changed the normal elephant pattern to Japan's tiger embroidery which gets along well with the original structure of the chair.

Another popular product from Mr. Saran, ‘Noodle Stool,’ was launched and exhibited for the first time in Bangkok Design Week 2018 at New Hengee, a 60-year-old Chinese restaurant. This is the place where Saran got the inspiration to create this chair. He also invited many Thai designers to create the products too.

เก้าอี้ก๋วยเตี๋ยว ผลงานสุดเท่ของคุณศรัณย์ เย็นปัญญา​

Noodle Stool ผลงานการสร้างสรรค์เก้าอี้ก๋วยเตี๋ยวหน้าตาคุ้นเคยให้กลายเป็นงานดีไซน์สุดเท่ ผลงานชิ้นนี้จะเป็นของใครไปไม่ได้นอกจาก คุณศรัณย์ เย็นปัญญา Creative Director และผู้ก่อตั้ง 56thStudio นักออกแบบที่เล่าเรื่องผ่านข้าวของเครื่องใช้และเฟอร์นิเจอร์ เรื่องเล่าของเขามีชีวิตอยู่ในทุกอย่างที่เขาอออกแบบและสร้างผลงานการเล่าเรื่องในแบบที่ไม่มีใครมองเห็น​

คุณศรัณย์ได้เล่าถึงแรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานชิ้นนี้ไว้ว่า เกิดจากการที่เขาได้ไปนั่งทานก๋วยเตี๋ยว และสังเกตเห็นเก้าอี้ในร้านที่ดู Functional มีน้ำหนักเบา เคลื่อนย้ายได้สะดวก จึงเกิดคำถามว่า ทำไมไม่มีใครเอามา Re-design ให้สวยงามน่าใช้หรือทันสมัยขึ้น หลังจากนั้นก็ไป research อย่างจริงจังแล้วพบว่า เก้าอี้แบบนี้ต่างมีเรื่องราวมากมายในตัวของมันเอง จึงได้ตัดสินใจออกแบบผลงานชิ้นนี้ออกมา​

โดยคุณศรัณย์ได้เลือกหยิบรูปทรงโครงเหล็กที่เป็น character หลัก ออกแบบให้เป็นโทนสีจัดจ้าน ที่เป็นเสน่ห์ของงาน Oriental เบาะนั่งเปลี่ยนวัสดุใหม่ให้ให้เป็นวัสดุพื้นถิ่นไทยอย่าง เสื่อทอมือของมหาสารคาม กระจูดจากพัทลุง และงานผ้าจากบนดอยที่เขาไปนำมาด้วยตัวเอง เพื่อให้แตกต่างจากวัสดุเดิม ลวดลายจากที่เคยเป็นรูปช้างธรรมดา ก็กลายเป็นงานปักลายเสือของประเทศญี่ปุ่น ซึ่งเข้ากันได้ดีกับขาเหล็กที่เป็นโครงสร้างดั้งเดิมของเก้าอี้​

‘เก้าอี้ก๋วยเตี๋ยว’ เป็นอีกผลงานหนึ่งที่โด่งดังของคุณศรัณย์ ได้เปิดตัวและจัดนิทรรศการครั้งแรกในงาน Bangkok Design Week 2018 ที่ นิวเฮงกี  ร้านอาหารจีนอายุ 60 ปี ที่ๆสร้างแรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานชิ้นนี้ออกมา และยังได้เชิญนักออกแบบไทยอีกหลายคนมาร่วมสร้างสรรค์ผลงานในครั้งนี้ ​
